A group of horses moves through a snowy Vermont pasture, their different tones standing out against the winter landscape. Some run in opposite directions while another remains near the stable, watching the action unfold.
Artist Note
Envy is one of my personal favorites, and I think of it as one of my iconic Vermont photographs. I came across the scene while driving up Route 17, and what caught me was not just the horses and snow, but the dynamic between them. A few were running in opposite directions, covered in a light dusting of snow, while one horse stayed back near the stable and simply watched. There was something very human about it. Some of us are drawn to the action, while others are happier observing from the edge. That mix of playfulness and personality is what made the image stick with me.
Envy was included in my 2024 Vermont-themed solo exhibition at the Marblehead Arts Association. It is currently on display as a 40 x 40 canvas at Art in the Village in Warren, Vermont, and as a double-framed 50 x 50 print at Northeast Dermatology Associates in Marblehead. It has also become one of my more popular pieces.
